About Us

DF’s (District Fellows) are the 16-20 year old members of the co-operative educational youth movement, The Woodcraft Folk, whose ideology is based on the principles of equality, peace, social justice and co-operation, with an empahsis on the empowerment of young people.

The movement consists of five age groups:
Elfins: 6 to 9 years old
Pioneers: 10 to 12 years old
Venturers: 13 to 15 years old
DF’s: 16 to 20 years old
Kinsfolk: “16 to DEATH!”

Elfin, Pioneer and Venturer groups are usually run by one or more adult leaders (including DF’s themselves). In DF’s you organise yourself! DF’s can be found in most areas of the country.

About us

DF Groups

To be a DF group, (in theory), you must have at least 5 DF’s, with a minimum of two of those aged 18+.

DF meetings usually consist of a group of like minded individuals meeting up at a regular time and place (someones house, or a pub for instance, or even a community hall if the group is large enough) and taking part in usual woodcraft activites. These activities range from co-operative games, orgainising events, workshops and discussions, and general drinking and socialising!

However, if you don’t have enough DF’s in your area to start up a group, do not despair! You can still be a DF!!! You can be a lone DF- get in contact with your regional rep to see if there are any groups you can join up with, and/or come to loads of national events. Don’t worry, as a DF you’ll know how to have fun on your own!

National Membership

DF’s pay a small fee to be registered as adult members of The Woodcraft Folk , which is very important, as it means that they can be contacted and sent lots of useful and exciting information about upcoming events, as well as providing vital funding for our not very rich organisation! Membership is also essential if you are helping with a group, as otherwise you have no insurance and can be held personally responsible! To find out more go to the contact page, or contact your regional developer.
