Right to Refuge – Get involved!

Will be the specific focus of this years campaign! Already a lot of ground has been covered by Kezia on Right to Refuge and it’s already well known in the movement!
So this year we’re focussing in, like I say on detention! (Don’t worry, there will still be workshops and side issues which we’ll take action on, it’s just the bulk of our energy will be focussed on detention, and the conditions of detention centres.)
So why am I telling you this?
Good question! (if I don’t say so myself)
Well, what we really need, just as with Direct your Democracy, is a campaign team! It’ll be your job to organise the minutae of action, lobbying and generally getting things done on the ground, as well as having a major say in where we’re going with all this!

The new coalition declared they would end child detention for illegal refugees, but you may have noticed this has not happened. In fact reports have shown that absolutely nothing has changed, so even if steps to prevent it have happened, they have not been evident. The problems with Child Detention are undeniable with over 700 children being locked up last year and survey’s showing over 70% of Children in detention are suffering from severe depression. We can campaign to change this and could really make a difference, so watch this space.
