We are very grateful to the Co-Op, who kindly give the Woodcraft Folk much of its funding through the community fund. You can get involved with the Co-Op Movement locally, Nationaly or Internationaly.
• Become a member. Keep up to date with what is happening in the Co-Op and get a share of the proffits when you buy Co-Op group products. Joining is free!
• Run for Area Committee. These committees decide what is happening in the Co-Op Group at a local level. It involves monthly meetings and occasional conferences with store managers. Expenses are paid and there is a salary of £1,300. Elections are held annually.
• International Youth Co-Operative. Become one of the four U.K. representatives for the International Youth Co-Operative. Once formed, this committee, which will be made out of a total of sixteen members from U.K, Italy, Spain and Poland, will create a European network of co-operatives and create new ones. There will be two meetings in Italy and phone conferences, with all expenses paid. Contact Julie Thorpe (julie@co-op.ac.uk) if you are interested.
• Young Co-Operatives. Start a co-operative with you district or other friends. You can sell what you like! Existing ideas include: making smoothies, selling boxes of fair trade food, running stalls…for more information visit www.youngco-operatives.org.uk. Ignore where the web-site says it’s just for schools, they have expanded and will soon be updating the web-site.

• Apply for funding. NYA support projects that help the local community. If you have an idea for how to help your local people then look on www.nya.org.uk and you may be able to get funding.
• Youth Work Training. NYA run a variety of Youth Work Training Programs. Some of these result in professional qualifications.
• Hear by Right and Act by Right. These are tools to help improve standards of youth work. www.hbr.nya.org.uk for more information.
www.youthinformation.com The NYA have a separate website dedicated to informing about issues such as the environment, crime and sex, as well as campaigns to get involved with, such as BATTLEFRONT! A friendly army of 19 young campaigners. There is also a free on-line magazine containing input from young people called RUSCKUS.

This Spring Awakening Hayley Jarvis from the National Deaf Children’s Society will being giving training for communication with deaf children, including sign language training. A deligation from the NDCS will be invited to the Taster Event at the beginning of DF Camp.

Span That World With Friendship

The District Fellows Movement is the 16-20 year old members of the co-operative educational youth charity, the woodcraft folk, whose ideology is based on the principles of equality, peace, social justice and co-operation, with an emphasis on the empowerment of young people.

DF meetings usually consist of a group of like minded individuals meeting up at a regular time and place (someone's house, or a pub for instance, or even a community hall if the group is large enough) and taking part in usual woodcraft activities. These activities range from co-operative games, orgainising events, workshops and discussions, and general socialising!

The DF movement also meets up on a national basis frequently, to hold both social, educational events and business events allowing everyone to be involved in the running of DF's...
