The Share

The Share is one of the most ambitious DF & young Kinsfolk projects yet.

To build the Share, we are offering training to DFs and young Kinsfolk in off-grid skills such as beekeeping, timber framing and permaculture. You can then use these skills to lead the way on sustainability. You might build a cob pizza oven at your local district, or create dazzling compost loos or a gorgeous straw bale roundhouse at a national Woodcraft Folk Centre like Lockerbrook. Along the way, you’ll be gaining expertise that will help to qualify you for a green job.

We are proud of our ambitious end goal. DFs and young Kinsfolk are designing, building and running our own national off-grid DF centre, The Share. The Share will be a beacon of cutting edge, stunning off-grid design, non-hierarchically designed by Woodies. It is part of the national Woodcraft Folk project Koodoo, and in 2012 Woodcraft Folk members nationally voted to support the Share.

Meet the Share team here and get in touch.

As it currently stands, the Share has three phases:

Phase I: inspiration

You will become a Share Builder and have hands-on experience of sustainable living at a thriving low-impact project, Lammas Eco Village. You will have the opportunity to experience low-impact living alongside your friends. Each participant will be able to choose a specialist low-impact skill such as straw bale building, cob building, organic veg growing and timber framing to experience.

Phase II: professional training

We are putting together an Awards for All funding bid to subside professional training for DFs and young Kinsfolk in low-impact skills, which you can then use to make your district or a national DF centre more sustainable. We are hoping to have a wishlist of sustainability courses: everything you could dream of we’ll apply for funding for, from wild food to cob ovens to permaculture, urban gardening, guerilla gardening, beekeeping, willow weaving and just general workshops in being mind-blowingly awesome, not that we need them.

Phase III: building the Share

Phase III will be building what your dream sustainable world looks like. Whether it’s communities celebrating together by baking pizzas in a sustainable wood-fuel cob oven at your local district, or a dream hobbit home at a national Woodcraft Folk centre using local or reclaimed building materials, you’ll be an expert and be able to set the ball rolling for the generations that follow to have a more sustainable, enjoyable life.
