Big Up the Exeter Scene!

Sep 20, 2010 by     9 Comments    Posted under: Span That World

Recently your training rep has been getting up to some district level mischief instead of his national duties… As well as writing articles in third person he’s also set up:

The Exeter College DF Society! Which will be one of the first of its kind,  and maybe even  the very first DF Society (as opposed to a Woodcraft Folk soc). Not only that; but it may well put Exeter down as the first district in recent history to have two fully fledged DF groups!??

So, very exciting times.

Above is a picture of the freshers’ fair stall, with high tech scrolling text equipment (a smartphone propped up by blutac) a fair bit of interest was generated, considering the vagueness (or preferably broad scope) of what the society offered up. The college is one of the largest FE institutions in the country and has its’ own union and scene going on, which DFs could become right at the heart of.

This should be great for giving Venturers an easy way to stay involved after they leave school, and entice more of the 16-18 year olds, who can seem all to few in an organisation with such proportionately high numbers of university undergraduates…

That’s not to say more mature students won’t be welcome, because they (/you?) will! There are few who are more welcoming than the DFs and Woodcraft Folk.

  • Exeter College student wanting to know more about the society? e-mail Ilya on ilyapittabird@exe-coll.ac.uk (or use the address on the poster).    -Meetings likely to be Tuesdays at 4:30, room tbc. First meeting will be Tuesday 29th September.

  • kt moon

some of us in my college were already thinking of setting up something along these lines so this is rather useful :D

  • phinharper

“Laid Back or Life Changing” – brilliant tag line.

  • louise

ooh, can Kt and i use the poster as a base for one for our college?

  • samir

dito on adapting the poster for DF promotion…
    please can we use it?

  • Ilya

    thanks guys :)

I got about twenty people down in total, which doesn’t sound like much, but when you consider the numbers of a couple of the well established societies (between fifteen and thirty mostly) it did pretty well.

if you want the poster just send an email to my blueyonder account. it’s in ms publisher.

    xx

Put it in the resources section in an editable format, or get either the webmaster or outgoing comms person to do it.

  • Ilya

good idea, Jack! I didn’t realise that publicity I made was worthy of such places :P
