15th Feb 2010 – The Blockade

This will be preceded by a free training session up in Bradford on the 16th Jan.

The blockade is being organised by Trident Ploughshares with the help of CND.
There is a whole lot of info available here – http://www.tridentploughshares.org/article1577 if you are interested – this is a short nugget to help explain the thinking behind the action:
Why Blockade the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston?

Blockading the factory at AWE is an effective way of disrupting the ongoing work carried out there of building facilities for, and doing research into, the next generation of Trident warheads, Britain’s nuclear weapon of mass destruction. Such a blockade allows everyone to get involved at a level with which they are most comfortable. Involvement can range from their simple but visible presence at the gates, to trying to communicate with workers, to directly impeding access to the illegal and immoral work at AWE Aldermaston by blockading the gates for as long as possible and risking arrest.

Preparation:

Local groups around the country are getting ready for the blockade, so it is worth contacting a CND groups near you to talk about training and transport.

DF Campaigns will be hosting a Non-Violent Direct Action training session in Bradford on the 16th Jan.
NVDA. is all about taking our message straight to the source, using our collective bodies to prevent the manufacturing of WMDs and proving our commitment to a nuclear free future. It involves a number of roles, some potentially arrestable, others definateally not. It will be an engaging introduction to the ideas and practices of NVDA, for beginners of those that feel they could use a little preparation / reminding.

16th Jan 4-6pm – Direct Action Training

Venue: Bradford Resource Centre, two minutes from the interchange.
Free and open to all, but please email joel (neon42@gmail.com) to book in so that we get an idea of numbers.
Before the training Yorkshire CND are hosting a very interesting talk – ‘Devonport: the Nuclear Dump and The Green Alternative’ at Leeds Met uni, which will finish in time for the training.
Afterwards we will be watching ‘Dr Strangelove’ on the big screen at a near by community cinema.
