The Role
Campaigning is a vital part of the District Fellows Movement, it’s what defines our external public image and gives us a voice as young people. Campaigning is a direct application of the ethos of youth empowerment that the Woodcraft Folk stand for. We stand at the head of a tradition of hundreds of years of protesters, from the direct action of the Diggers’ land seizure to the public welfare measures of the early cooperative movement, with a duty to intervention where we see injustice or inequality. Campaigning relieves the frustration of an under-representative political system through taking action into our own hands and changing the world for the better.
The role of the Campaigns representative is as fluid as any other. Fundamentally it is to facilitate the aspirations of the movement and focus the ideals into tangible external activity, but this can take many forms, from simply organising a DF presence at protests and marches to organising direct action and publicity actions themselves. Workshops will often be necessary to move the campaigns forward within the movement. Campaigns is one of the most exciting aspects of the movement and a dynamic and pioneering role.
