DF Althing Motion Powerfully Passed

Jun 14, 2009 by     1 Comment     Posted under: Span That World

Open-space debate with external facilitator made sure everybody's voices were heard

Good news, everyone!

As of yesterday, Annual Gathering will no longer be held during the exam season starting on the 1st of May. The dates of next gathering are as yet undetermined but will not be in the exam time-frame.

This is after this motion passed at the Folk’s Annual Conference on Saturday:

This Annual Conference recognizes the necessity that Annual Gathering shouldnot take place between
May 1st and June 19th (inclusive) in order to include the youth of our youth movement in our decision
making process.
This Conference instructs General Council to avoid scheduling Annual Conference between May 1st and the end of the standard exam period.

The debate was heart felt and powerful, Phin Harper kicked off the discussion with a scathing assesment of the status quo and in the open space debate resistance was steadily toppled by the overwhelming logic of the DF Case.

This was moved and seconded by DF Althing – I wasn’t there myself, but it’s a good example of how DFs can feed back into the wider movement! So props to us. Now go to the Choose AG Dates post to decide when it should move to!

Yeah! Well done to everyone involved in writing the original motion, persuading other members of the folk, and campaigning for the motion to be passed at the conference yesterday.
