Regional Council

The Regional Council is made from a team of regional developers elected at Althing representing each of the 9 DF Regions.

The position of regional developer is quite a creative one with different ways the developers can develop their regions. The different regions all have different needs, so a lot of the role of regional developer is to find out what their region needs and help to achieve this. That being said there are some things that are pretty much universal and all regional developers do:

  • They help set up new groups in their region.
  • They provide support to existing groups.
  • They try to increase membership and participation in their region.
  • They attend their regional council (if they have one)
  • Support regional projects or activities.
  • Liaise with the regional development representative the concerns of their region and comminicate what the regional development representative wants reported from committee to the regions.
  • Share ideas with other regional developers so good ideas don’t get lost.

As of Althing08 the role of integrations officer on DF committee has been given to the regional developers as it was felt it would work better on a regional level. As a result of this the regional developers now have the following roles:

  • Help ease the transition between Venturers and DFs and Dfs and Kinsfolk.
  • Talk to Venturers and try to get more to move up into DFs when they turn 16.

All of these things are carried out differently in different regions due to different needs and different dynamics of regions. It is not intended to be a comprehensive list but more of a guide to what regional developers do. However, a regional developer can do anything that they think will develop their region.

The District Fellows Movement is the 16-20 year old members of the co-operative educational youth charity, the woodcraft folk, whose ideology is based on the principles of equality, peace, social justice and co-operation, with an emphasis on the empowerment of young people.

DF meetings usually consist of a group of like minded individuals meeting up at a regular time and place (someone's house, or a pub for instance, or even a community hall if the group is large enough) and taking part in usual woodcraft activities. These activities range from co-operative games, orgainising events, workshops and discussions, and general socialising!

The DF movement also meets up on a national basis frequently, to hold both social, educational events and business events allowing everyone to be involved in the running of DF's...
