First Time
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of casting your first vote and feeling the effects (almost) immediately, while surrounded by beautiful people who span the ages, all kitted out in sexy woodcraft hoodies, in a luscious green field, in the sunshine, near a little provincial town called Horsforth…and for me that was what my first experience of Annual Gathering was all about!

This years Annual Conference proved to be a productive and fun filled weekend with active debate and campfire songs coexisting happily. Whilst many delegates and staff arrived on Friday night to make preparations the real business of Annual Gathering kicked off at 9am(ish) on Saturday morning with a full day of jargon such as standing orders, quorum, annual reviews, on the table, accounts, points of order and open spaces…there was enough to baffle even the most experienced woodcrafters among us.
Throughout the day a total of 9 motions were voted upon with many energetic and passionate views exchanged. There was a lively discussion about the Charitable Status of Woodcraft Branches which confused many and generated vivid opinions. Perhaps the most significant motion for DFs nationwide was the motion to prevent
Annual Gathering being held between May 1st and the end of the examination period which would allow the youth of our organization to play an active role at the conference without the pressure of exams looming. This was passed with a roaring cheer from the young people there and will hopefully allow for more attendance in the future.
More than a big debate
Just before a scrumptious curry supper; a summer fete opened complete with apple bobbing and a lucky dip. Faces and feet were covered in paint and several delegates tried their hand at fishing!
There was much singing around the campfire and workshops took place in the glorious sunshine the following day before we all packed up and said our farewells. Overall a brilliant weekend which kick-started what looks like a very promising summer and a bright future ahead for the Woodcraft Folk.
Big Thanks to all the volunteers and staff that made Annual Gathering happen. And remember to choose the dates for the next AG here

The District Fellows Movement is the 16-20 year old members of the co-operative educational youth charity, the woodcraft folk, whose ideology is based on the principles of equality, peace, social justice and co-operation, with an emphasis on the empowerment of young people.
DF meetings usually consist of a group of like minded individuals meeting up at a regular time and place (someone's house, or a pub for instance, or even a community hall if the group is large enough) and taking part in usual woodcraft activities. These activities range from co-operative games, orgainising events, workshops and discussions, and general socialising!
The DF movement also meets up on a national basis frequently, to hold both social, educational events and business events allowing everyone to be involved in the running of DF's...
