Back to the Future

The year is 2075, the world has been ravaged by climate chaos along with wars over water, fuel and food. Over half the world’s population have become refugees, as a few wealthy businesses continue to profit out of other’s misery. One such company- The Fun Corporation – have been particularly successful. Offering people relative security in a chaotic world, they took over a forgotten organization once known as ‘The Woodcraft Folk’ and established, highly policed ‘camps’ where fun is enforced with medication and repression, where freedom has been given up in favour of survival and constant, punishing ‘FUN’. Few can remember how the corporation managed to become so powerful, and fatal mistakes of climate change, migration rights, global poverty and war are now looked back on with a bellowing laugh, rather than any notion of lessons learned. The Fun Corporation have two key rules

  1. Smiling is obligatory. Laughter is constant. Those not enjoying themselves will be assimilated.
  2. Aging is a barrier to fun. All those over the age of 16 are banned from Fun Corp Camps.

The Fun Corp have taken misery and dismay, fueled by the collapse of our abused planet, and used it to profit and gain power. Such totalitarian rule has benefited the faceless Fun Corp no end, but along with the heavy use of ‘fun pills’ and ‘fun drinks’ has meant that no new people are being born into the Fun Corp dynasty. To counter this the Fun Corp built a number of time machines which can go back in time, steal new young people from the past and bring them to 2075. This is why you are here.

What the corporation do not know is that a number of rebels, people who want to make the world a better place with freedom and equality, not forced fun, have been mounting a resistance. And we have got a plan:

To ensure that new recruits do not get back to their original pasts, where they could try and stop the problems of the last 65 years at the source and save the long-lost ‘Woodcraft Folk’, the Fun Corp have dismantled their time machines and hidden them around the Camp. With the help of the rebels, we will get each village to construct a time machine, collecting the components from around the camp.

This means collecting:

  • Fuel. Needed to power the machine.
  • Time Capsules. Our archaeologists believe there are time capsules buried around the site which will help us understand how the world got into such a mess.
  • Adults. Banned under Fun Corp rules, but over 16s might be able to help us get back to 2010, if we can find them…
  • Scientists. Many of our best scientists are being kept prisoner around the camp, we will need them in order to get back home.
  • Time machine parts. Without these we will not be able to construct the bases of our time machine.
  • Food. If we are going to eat, we will need to find our food. It’s a scarce resource in 2075, with a lot of the world’s population dying from starvation.

The first thing to remember is that the Fun Police are out in force, patrolling the site and taking anyone who is not having enough fun into their horrific ‘fun factory’. They will also ask to see passports, be told jokes, and sometimes apply ‘tickles’ to those who are not having enough fun. The Fun Corporation have complete control of the central area, and masks or jokes are unlikely to help you there. It’s best to try and stay away from them as we try and complete the task. Once each village has got it’s parts, rebels will tell them that actually the time machine is not powerful enough without all the villages pooling their resources. Spies say that the Fun Corp have realised what is happening and have focused all their energy on building a ‘fun bomb’ which, if detonated, will turn the small remaining population of planet earth into emotionless ‘fun’ drones, personifications of the evil ‘Fun Corp’ brand. Time is running out, but the central area is less protected as the work takes place. Each village needs to storm the central area and use the power supply in the main marquee to complete their time travel back to 2010 and stop the future becoming this vision of horror.
