Althing – Where the Magic Happened

This year’s Allthing was held in Eggesford, tucked away in the rolling hills of Devon. Home to the Chichester family and the Earl of Portsmouth and visited in 1885 by Thomas Hardy. So not a place of great historic events, until now…
On the 4th of September 30-odd DFs descended on the Wembworthy Centre and heated debates and sleeping bags were unleashed.
Friday night was nice and chilled but Saturday morning was straight down to business with around 30 motions in total and almost the same amount of emergency motions to get through.

Some really exiting new motions were passed such as the motion to enable DFs to be elected to General Council at Winter Wonderland. This was passed to give more people a chance to stand that would not have usually come to any business events – this motion will come into action next year.
A rather smug motion inspired by the 10:10 project was passed to reduce DF carbon emissions by 20% instead of the set 10% by 2010 – because of course this would be more numerically fitting.

One of the most exiting motions passed was the motion to create a DF Zine – as opposed to the rather un-stimulating newsletter – that will be published at least four times a year. Kate Bowman put a great amount of effort into passing this motion by designing a weird and wonderful prototype of the Zine itself which was packed full of all sorts of amazing things such as Vegan recipes, tips for skipping, posters, poems and much more!
And the last (but most definitely not least significant) motion of the day was to elect an innuendo person (referred to of course as the in-your-endo person) who will have to be present at every business event and ding a bell every time they saw fit for an innuendo to be made. The only exception to this motions is it cannot be Lucas.
Finally well done to the new (and renewed) committee members and regional reps! Good luck for this year! And thank you to Cara Hammond who made this Allthing the success that it was.
